Emma Hatcher

What time are you pacing?

2hr 15min 10:18 min/mile

How many half marathons have you run, including how many Bentwood Half Marathons?

Brentwood half 2020 will be my 4th time running Brentwood half, but will be my 14th half marathon!

What are your PBs

My half marathon is 1:45:40 and my full marathon is 3:59:17

Why are you a runner?

I ran occasionally as a teenager, the odd 30 mins every so often. I signed up for a 5k in 2015, then a 10k and then signed upto Brentwood half as my first half marathon in 2016, the following year I ran my first marathon. I love the feeling of a good run, where you feel full of energy when you finish and so glad that you went. Sometimes it’s hard to get out of the door, but you always feel better for a run.

What running moment are you most proud of?

Getting through my first marathon was a massive achievement. I was struggling to train with an injury and was so happy to finish.

How do you stay motivated to keep running?

I find having a race in my mind to train for helps keep me motivated. There’s nothing like an upcoming race to get you out the door and getting the miles in. The better you train, the more enjoyable the race will be!

What are your tips for race day?

Try to eat well, and stay hydrated. Take a relatively easy week of running, cramming in lots of miles in your last week will only make your body tired. Try to stay relaxed and sleep well, and enjoy the run!

How many half marathons have you run, including how many Bentwood Half Marathons?

Gosh I’ve lost count but at least 20 including the Great North run, Royal Parks and I have even popped over to America for the Las Vegas Half. This will be my 3rd time running Brentwood half but I have also supported via marshaling on two other occasions.

What is your half marathon PB?

1hr 46min

Why are you a runner?

I got into running when I was asked to run a 10km to raise funds for a local youth club where I was volunteering at the time. That was over 6 years ago now and I just fell in love with realising what my mind and body could do. I am a frequent Parkrun attendee, I love the ethos and try to visit as many different venues as I can.

What running moment are you most proud of?

Supporting as a guide runner at Basildon Parkrun on Christmas Day 2019. I took the responsibility extremely seriously, very much like how I see my role as a pacer.

How do you stay motivated to keep running?

I am very lucky to have met my husband through running and therefore we keep each other motivated, he is also running in this years Brentwood Half. We got married in 2018 and Sportstiks kindly made our wedding invites in the form of running bibs. They were the perfect choice for us.

What are your tips for race day?

Think about your fuel. Keep your dinner light and avoid spice the night before. Plus eat the breakfast you are going to eat for the big day as much as you can to make sure your body is happy with it.
